Sydney Tower Run-Up (1504 stairs)

I just "ran" the Sydney Tower Run-Up. 1504 stairs from bottom to top - glad it was over in about 15 mins! I thought I'd be happy if I could just run the whole way - haha - no chance! Was walking by level 20 I reckon - with still 50+ to go! Not sure of time but was good fun.

Update: Official time was 13.27. So-so

16km run

I went for a 16km run today from my house down to our normal 6k route and around the Opera House and back. I felt pretty good most of the way thanks to the camelbak and a sugary gelat the 10k mark. Just under 5mins/k so not bad. I am doing a stairclimb up the Sydney tower (1500 steps) on friday so hopefully my legs will recover alright over the next day.

City2Surf

I thought I was near the front but obviously wasn't as I spent the first 1k dodging and diving to get the pace up from a shuffle. I was going to have a gripe about self-seeding but then I realised that I was the one who joined the start line at 8.30am so can't blame anyone but myself.

Apart from a 20-30 sec delay for a much needed toilet stop (tree stop actually), I was really happy with my time. My goal was to go under 65mins and finished in 64.33. In the 12km to 13km, I flew down the hill in 3.47 making up some lost time on the very heartbreaking Heartbreak Hill. I beat my previous best by more than 5mins!

Must remember to train on hills before next year also.

Next step, half-marathon training - maybe I can still do sub-90 this year :)

Sutherland2Surf

I ran the Sutherland2Surf (11km) on Sunday July 27 in a time of 49.03. Very happy with the time, and although it does not put me on track for sub-60 City2Surf, it was a good run. My goal now for C2S is sub-65min. Anything close to 63 will be awesome at this stage. After the C2S this Sunday (Aug 11), I'll assess my target for my first half-marathon of the year.

My dodgey hamstring is starting to feel a lot better so its all go for the last five months of the year!

9 July 2008

It was so cold outside tonight that I ran my 9km on the treadmill. Probably the longest I've ever run inside. Ran at a steady 5min/km until the last 7mins when I cranked it up a little. Finished in 44.20

Signed and Sealed

I have signed up for the Sutherland 2 Surf (11km), City2Surf (14km) and Sydney Running Festival (21km). Time to start training for a good time. I didn't run in the last week as 1) I was lazy and 2) I have a niggly hamstring. I finally went for a short run on Sunday (6km/29mins) and it was good. I'm going to see someone about my sore leg but I don't think its really bad enough to stop me running.

I guess you can read into this then that I didn't run last week because of reason 1.

Back in Sydney!

After a month away in Europe, I'm back in Sydney and ready to start training. I went for three short jogs while away so I need to build up to longer distances from the beginning. In this first week back, I went to the gym once, went for one 6km run at 5min/k pace and played two games of hockey on Saturday. It's Monday now and my legs are still recovering from hockey!

Part 2: Week 4: Tuesday

On Monday, in our group training session, we did sprints around the Opera House and push-ups, squats etc until it hurt. Tim managed to win all three time trials by a fair distance and I came second in all three. It's about 610m around and I did a 1.57 the first run which was better than my previous best of 2.10 so I'm getting faster but Tim is getting faster faster-er.

So after that, I had Tuesday off.

Part 2: Week 3 Recap

Ok, I haven't written for a while... Last week my legs felt like stone for some reason. I ran a 10km on Friday which was painful the whole way. I could feel the old shin splints coming on so I am making an effort to stretch my calves more and do all the old stretches my Physio advised me of.

I struggled during my first game of hockey on Saturday but my legs felt like the freed up somewhat in the second half. We lost 1-2 but it was good fun. I went for a jog on Sunday with Amanda for 3km then did another 3km a bit faster. Still felt heavy in the legs.
